In online marketing, behavioral targeting is a way for advertisers to recommend products based on a specific person’s Internet activity. This approach is focused on the web user and providing personalized advertisements.
Essentially, information about a website visitor’s online activity is tracked over a period of time. Data is collected about their purchasing habits, browsing activity, demographic, and more. This data is then used to provide targeted ads on different websites they may visit.
Behavioral targeting plays a big part in affiliate marketing. An optimized blog post that recommends a certain product or service can be the first step in the process. Even if the blog post doesn’t result in a conversion, the time they spent on your website may eventually result in a sale later on due to behavioral targeting.
