Sometimes, Internet shoppers have an initial interest in purchasing a product. Many will put items in their virtual shopping carts, only to later leave the website without taking those final steps to make a purchase. This is referred to as abandonment. The shopper abandoned the items in their cart, ultimately deciding not to buy them.
There are many ways in which advertisers and merchants can use abandonment to their advantage. Targeted marketing efforts can be used to remind people of those abandoned shopping carts, making that final push for a sale.
