What is: Press This?

“Press This” is a special tool developed for WordPress authors who want to more easily share content from another website.

“Press This” must be installed in order to use it. To do so, visit your administration screen and then click on “Tools” in the left-hand column. From there, click on “Available Tools” and you should see the option to “Install Press This.” Alternatively, you can drag the bookmarklet named “Press This” to the bookmarks bar of your browser.

Note: If you operate more than one WordPress site, be aware that the “Press This” functionality is tied to one specific WordPress site. If you want to use multiple “Press This” bookmarklets, you’ll need to repeat the process for each WordPress site.

To use Press This, you’ll need to be logged into your WordPress site. From there, simply browse the web normally. If you see content that you want to copy and use on your website, highlight the content with your mouse and click on “Press This” in the bookmarks bar of your browser. A basic text editor for creating a new post will then open up with the post’s title being taken from the original website. You can, of course, modify this.

If you see media on a third-party website that you want to use on your own, simply click on the “Add Media” button after clicking on “Press This”. A link to the original media’s URL will be automatically appended to your post so that you will give fair attribution to the original website.

“Press This” was first made available for WordPress version 2.6. It has been an official part of all WordPress sites beginning in version 4.2. In WordPress versions 4.9 and newer, Press This is a built-in plugin in order to provide more third-party functionality.

Jamie Spencer

My name is Jamie Spencer and I have spent the past 10 years building money making blogs. After growing tired of the 9-5, commuting and never seeing my family I decided that I wanted to make some changes and launched my first blog. Since then I have launched lots of successful niche blogs and after selling my survivalist blog I decided to teach other people how to do the same.
