What is: Default Theme?

When you first install WordPress, it will come with an activated theme. This is referred to as the default theme. You can, of course, change the theme at any time or stay with the default theme. Both WordPress.org and third-party sites have hundreds of thousands of different themes to choose from.

Note: In case something goes wrong with your theme, or if your theme gets accidentally deleted, WordPress will automatically fall back to the default theme.

The ability to change themes began with WordPress version 1.5 when the default theme was Kubrick. Prior to that, all WordPress websites had to use the same theme. With the release of version 3.0 of WordPress, the TwentyTen theme became the default theme. Beginning in 2010, WordPress started using a default theme that is named after the current year.

The default theme provided by WordPress is designed to be clean, simple, and easy to use as well as demonstrate many of the amazing abilities of what WordPress can do. If you’re not comfortable with changing or modifying your theme, the default theme can definitely be used to create an engaging and interesting website and showcase your abilities as a digital content provider.

Jamie Spencer

My name is Jamie Spencer and I have spent the past 10 years building money making blogs. After growing tired of the 9-5, commuting and never seeing my family I decided that I wanted to make some changes and launched my first blog. Since then I have launched lots of successful niche blogs and after selling my survivalist blog I decided to teach other people how to do the same.
