What is: Admin Bar?

The Admin Bar is also known as the Administration Area Bar or just the toolbar that you can see from the admin area or Administration Screens. The toolbar is a horizontal black stripe across the top of the screen that contains links to some of the most commonly used functions.

For an administrator of a WordPress site, the Admin Bar will contain links to such functions as adding a new post, viewing pending contents, and viewing your website the way it is displayed to visitors.

Note: You cannot directly adjust or change which options are available in your Admin Bar. Certain plugins, however, will add options to the Admin Bar.

The Admin Bar has been included in all versions of WordPress starting with version 3.1. Every registered user of your website with a defined user role (i.e. Subscriber, Author, etc.) will have access to their own admin area that has an Admin Bar, but their privileges will determine what options they can see and use.

Note: It is possible to turn off showing the Admin Bar to any user who does not have administrator privileges or above by changing the code in your theme’s “functions.php” file.

The standard way to get to the admin area that includes the Admin Bar is by going to the “/wp-admin” page of your website. For example, if your site is hosted at “www.MyAwesomeBlog.com” then the admin area with the Admin Bar would usually be located at “www.MyAwesomeBlog.com/wp-admin”.

Jamie Spencer

My name is Jamie Spencer and I have spent the past 10 years building money making blogs. After growing tired of the 9-5, commuting and never seeing my family I decided that I wanted to make some changes and launched my first blog. Since then I have launched lots of successful niche blogs and after selling my survivalist blog I decided to teach other people how to do the same.
